1099 Tax Forms for Creators Paid Through Lefty

How 1099 tax forms work for influencers paid through Lefty, eligibility, form types, and how to access your form via Stripe Express.

Why you may receive a 1099 from Lefty

When brands pay influencers through Lefty, payments are processed via Stripe. In this setup, Lefty acts as the legal payer β€” meaning your 1099 tax form is issued by Lefty, not by the brand you worked with.

Your form will appear in your Stripe Express dashboard, accessible from your Lefty creator account.

Am I eligible to receive a 1099?

You should expect to receive a 1099-NEC if:

  • You are based in the US or are a US taxpayer, and

  • You were paid $600 or more in a calendar year through Lefty

The 1099-NEC (Non-Employee Compensation) is the form used to report payments made to contractors and service providers. This is the form type Lefty issues.

If you are not based in the US and are not a US taxpayer, you will not receive a 1099.

When will I receive my form?

If you have agreed to e-delivery in Stripe Express, your form will be available by January 31. Here is the full timeline:

  • November – December: You may receive an email prompting you to log into Stripe Express and verify your tax information (name, address, SSN, EIN, or ITIN).

  • Before January 22: Confirm your tax information is correct in Stripe Express.

  • End of January: Lefty files your 1099 form with the IRS and applicable state tax authorities.

  • January 31: Your form is available to download in Stripe Express.

  • After filing: If you need a correction, contact Lefty directly.

How to access your 1099

  1. Click Go to my Stripe Dashboard

  2. Navigate to the Tax Documents section

  3. Download your 1099-NEC form

πŸ’‘ No Lefty account? You can skip step 1 and go directly to your Stripe Express dashboard. Use the email address associated with your Stripe payment account to log in.

Make sure your tax information is up to date

Stripe uses the tax details you provided when registering your payment account. Keep your name, address, and tax ID (SSN, EIN, or ITIN) current in Stripe Express to avoid errors on your form.
